S550EDIT - editor for the Roland S550 sampler. Description The program enables you to use a PC to control most of the s550's parameters, using system exclusive messages. It does not perform sample editing or sample dumps. The program requires vbrun300.dll which is not included with the program. The program also requires that a midi in/out device in your pc. (It will not run if no midiinterface is found!) To use the program you have to turn the system exclusiv switch of the S550 on, and the Device ID must be set to 1. (You find these settings in the MIDI MODE of the S550). When you start the program the first time, remember to choose the appropriate midi device for input and output (MENU: Options|Device). Overview The program consists of three main screens: 1) Part and MIDI settings. 2) Patch settings. 3) Tone settings. The functions should mostly be quite self explanatory, provided you are familiar with the S550 manual. The program won't do anything you cannot do with the S550 alone. The program's purpose is to provide an alternative and, hopefully, better interface to the sampler. Comments to the screens When you start the program, you will first see the Part and MIDI settings screen. If you have your sampler hooked up with the PC, you can load the settings from the sampler by clicking the menu Sysex|Load <***> In order to access the PatchEdit and ToneEdit screens choose MENU: Edit. Assigning Tones to the Patch Split : PatchEdit screen. You can easily create new patches by choosing one of the assign modes: INFO: Clicking on the keyboard shows which tone(s) is/are currently assigned to the key. 1st Tone/ 2nd Tone/ 1st & 2nd: Assign the tones chosen in the listboxes to whatever key you click on the keyboard. MULTIMODES: Let you assign 1st, 2nd or both tones to a chosen key-range by clicing on the lowest and highest key of the range. ToneEdit screen: Setting of the envelope sustain and end points You must set the end point before you set the sustain point. Set the end point by dubble-clicking on one of the colored labels "Stage <*>". The controls for the following stages will then be inactivated. Set the sustain point by clicking once on the appropriate stage label. The chosen label will change colour. If you want to monitor the tone you are currently editing, choose the menu item "Option" and "Monitor Tone." NB! This function uses patch #16. The current patch #16 will be OVERWRITTEN. Also, for this function to work, a program change number for this patch must me assigned. (Enter a number between 1 and 127 in program change field 16 in the PART and MIDI screen. The program is released as freeware. I have been using it for some months and it seems to be stable, but I can of course not guaranty that there are no bugs. Thanks to David Churcher for providing his midi library. I have been using it extensively. The author can be reached by Internet email or through the sgroup mailing list.
