So, anyone know how to squeeze an extra 50MB for burning on to a Roland format CD-ROM ? The user manual goes on to say that the maximum capacity of a drive wich can be used with the S-760 is 600 megabytes. If this is true then how does it recognize CD-ROM's which contain close to 650 MB of data. I know for a fact that a few of my CD-ROM's contain at least 640MB of data. How did they do this ? Theoretically, the number is 7, as the SCSI version it supports allows 8 unique IDs, one of which will be used by the S-760 itself. I don't know of any problems you would have. I've certainly had devices on most IDs in the SCSI chain without problems, but they haven't all been fixed disks. I subbed about a month ago after buying an S-50 from eBay recently. I got a great deal on it because the seller claimed the LED display was not working. I repair computers for a living, so after getting the S-50 home, I put it up on my workbench and opened it up. These are really nice synths to work on with the fold up lid :) I inspected the solder joints for the LED display and sure enough some of there were "cold" and cracked. A quick "twist" test of the oversized circuit board that the LED display is soldered to backed me up as the LED display came to life briefly. So I warmed up the soldering iron and very carefully resoldered the joints that looked cracked. Oila, the display now works. Not a procedure for those with unsteady hands as the solder can quickly get out of hand and touch the joint next to it, but pretty straight forward for anyone who has electronics experience and a steady soldering iron hand. Saved me $100+ Canadian :) Andy Skuse - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lists.uunet.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lists.uunet.ca and see http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/ for more information. What exactly does the SW1 reset switch do inside the S-50? From some of the literature available on the net it appears to be a reset switch. Before I make a big mistake, exactly what does it reset, and if it resets the synth's ROM can it be reloaded? 2. When using the SMAC software, there doesn't appear to be any function to format a 720K floppy to the Roland format without completing some other process such as copying a disk image. Any suggestions on how to simply format a disk in the Roland format? The belt is okay, the switch that senses presence of a disk seems to work. If I manually rotate the drive gear until the read/write head is off of home position, the motor starts, and runs until the head has cycled back to home position. Clues, ideas? Offers? It is in an anvil forge case. The problem is = that the motor won't run until you start it manually. Did you check that voltage = is applied to the motor before you rotate the drive gear? If yes, than you = have some mechanical trouble. Has you asked Roland if they have a replacement drive in stock? They = will take a lot of money for it, but... BTW, I had to replace the belt of my S-220 quick disk drive, in this = case the motor runs but the belt slipped through the disk wheel. -- Thomas=20 > -----Original Message----- > From: Paul Peine [mailto:paulpeine@hotmail.com] > Sent: Tuesday, October 29, 2002 7:28 PM > To: sgroup@hugin.uunet.ca > Subject: sgroup S10 drive problem >=20 >=20 > Hello, >=20 > I have a nice S10 that won't read disks.
