But for a live sequencer, especially for working with loops in real time, i've been hard pressed to beat the ALESIS MMT 8. it's an 8 track sequencer (each track can have multiple simultaneous events on different channels if your data hungry). The beauty of this thing for loops/live is that each track has a a big ol' dedicated on/off button. So you can set up a pattern (say with 8 different loops on 8 channels) and bring loops in and out at the touch of a button. Very fun. anyone got one of these they wanna sell me? I want another one! if any one lives in hawaii and wants to see the mmt-8 in action, live dates graciously and happily supplied upon request! :) will ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lists.uunet.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lists.uunet.ca and see http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/ for more information. Is there anything I should be aware of before doing this? I seem to remember awhile back ago someone mentioning the S-760 wiping the disks on the Mac if booted in the wrong order. Is this a possibility? Is there in fact a proper order in which to boot the Mac and the S-760? Also, anyone know if I could get away with connecting a high quality 12' SCSI cable to a chain which also includes an external HD and CD-ROM? I know the standard recommendation is 12' total but I was wondering if anyone had gotten away with using a longer chain. You just have to be very careful not to access the chain at the same time. It is easy with the 760, simply don't boot or save anything while the Mac drive is going. As for the reverse, I don't touch the Mac while the 760 is accessing the drive. There is also an occasional problem with the Mac trying to spit out the S760 disk. I hardly ever have this problem, but I think that may be because I don't usually have the drivers for my EZ135 installed on the Mac. Others may have some input on this problem. If it does occur, try booting the S760 first. Once the disk is "locked in" to the chain with the S760, it seems that the Mac ignores it....I haven't really figured this strange thing out. Peak is not the best utility for transferring samples, IMHO. However, Transfer Station has its own crappy midi handshaking (instead of using OMS). It is not compatible with USB, so it is useless for USB midi devices. good luck adam Tim wrote: > I'm thinking about connecting my S-760 to my Mac using the SCSI > connection and Peak software. Mine is set to "default", so when there's a ZIP (with OS on it) inserted the S-760 boots from ZIP, else it asks for a system floppy. If you change this paramater, you have save the system parameters (in system / LD/SV SysPRM) afterwards. The system parameters are then saved to the S-760's internal EEPROM. I've got a related problem: my S-760 doesn't boot from CDRs written with Toast (3.5.6). In Toast, I do a "SCSI copy" from a HD the S-760 boots fine from. But it doesn't boot from that CD. I use the CD-writer (Ricoh MP6200S) as CD-ROM drive for the sampler, which works fine except for booting. Any hints? The German manual was up to date however. I don't think Roland Germany wrote a new manual, so there must be a actual English manual too.
