X-mailer: Pegasus Mail for Windows (v2.54) Message-ID: <3471E5106EC@rzi.ngate.uni-regensburg.de> Sender: owner-sgroup@lists.uunet.ca Precedence: bulk Hi folks! Yesterday I started the analysis of the s-50 os. Unsing an self written disassembler for the 8096 and patching the system disk I brought the s-50 to dump the contents of its EPROM to the midi interface. Analyzing the ROM I found a feature that might be useful for experiments, the ROM monitor. To get into the monitor keep the '0' key pressed when switching the s-50 on. There wont be any picture on the video monitor and the display in the sampler will show only some dim letters. Now you need a terminal connected via midi to the s-50. The monitor does not echo the input and accepts the commands only in uppercase letters. All parameters are 16bit words as four hex digits and no blanks are allowed between commands and parameters. Commands: '/' : prints a slash and returns to main loop M : prints the version of the monitor R : dump the next bytes starting at W : read bytes from terminal and store to I : fill memory at with bytes of B : no operation G : jump to address with Register $1e loaded with . This command doesnt return to the monitor unless you jump to an self written routine and set to the monitor main loop address (013f). Example: G20800000 Jumps to the reset address of the 8096. This leaves the monitor and the sampler starts again. Another alternative to leave the monitor is: G02D40000 At 02D4 there is an rst command that forces the 8096 to reset the peripheral chips to. The same as at power on. I will put any new information on my web site at http://rrzs42.uni-regensburg.de/~hep09515/keyboards Happy hacking! -- Dipl.-Inform. The archive machine will SHUT DOWN sometime between June 10 and June 17, and may not return for a while, while I search for a new location for it. This is because I am moving to a different city (closer to Toronto Canada) and my network connectivity is going to change completely. The page http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/ will always provide current information about where the sgroup stuff is. I have been considering offering to create CD-ROM copies of the sgroup archive and mail them out to people, and figure that I would probably need to charge $10 to cover my costs. Please let me know if you might be interested in that sort of a thing. At this point, I'm not expecting the mailing list address to change. Please let me know if you have any questions. Cheers! Unexpectedly, all the audio (which was a minute ago fine) gets completely munged and badly distorted. Even the waveforms look almost like like blocks. If he managed to save samples before they got distorted, everything´s ok. Just rebooting and reloading and that´s it. And this doesn´t happen all the way, just occasionally. My friend has also reported of smaller, "static" -like clicks that appear from nowhere and mess up samples. As all this was discussed, I recalled similar moments with my 760 a couple of years ago. Sample turned into white noise, just like described above. But the problem never came back and i cannot remember the what i did (and what i did not) in order to make the S-760 rock. Well, have anyone experienced anything like that? To me, it sounds like a hardware word clock failure, possibly at the D/A stage or something like a malfuncioting OP-761 expansion board. Could it be some odd SCSI behavior? Any help would be greatly appreciated! SDISK can create floppy disks readable by the sampler from these files. If the .OUT/.SDK file size is 1.4M rather that 737280 bytes then it's probably for the S-7** series samplers. I have to say, that's an impressive effort. Although I have a S-330, I was curious as to what you were refering to when you say to connect a terminal through MIDI? Are you talking about a MIDI monitor program that runs on the computer or an actual hardware monitor connected through a MIDI port? Best regards, David A.
