Interesting ! Where can I find this S-550 LIB program ? Is it shareware ? I only have a program called S550LB but this is a program to read the directory of the samplerdisk and puts the sounds into a searchable database. It is a very useful program but does not do any conversions so it has to be another program with nearly the same name. I also found another program (which I have not tested yet) that does wave to S50-disk conversions. If anyone of you is interested in these shareware programs let me know ! Ciao Peter PS: I don not if I mailed this disk problem solution to all of you: Yes, I had the same problem and found out what was the problem (in my setup). I just had to write the sampledisks on PC formatted 720kB disks. So the physical sector arrangement is pc-compatible and the S330 also has no problems with it. If I format disk on the S330 I cannot read them on the PC any longer... \|/ (o o) --oOOO--(_)--OOOo------------------------------------------------------ Ing. I'm not sure where to start. I'm downloading the S50 samples OK and they work for the most part, and I'd love to use the S550 sounds. I didn't find any instructions on the FTP site. Also, Is anyone else having problems with downloading certain Sample files, such as 502_9.OUT? When I try to load it, I get a "Disk Ver. Error" on my S50 Sampler. And the organ file, 503_7.ZIP seems to be corrupted somehow. Has anyone else run into this? There are errors when you unzip it. Please respond if you can help me. Thanks so much! I have an almost completed version 3.0 as well, which has some of the capabilities of SDISK as well (that is writing and reading disk files to and from floppy disks). It is a 32-bit program, running on Windows95 (not NT as it is using some low disk i/o routines only found in Win95). On page 5, the Guide Book states "Normally, the MIDI OUT connector is hardly used. It is used only for transmitting the S-330's internal data to a computer to save or edit in the computer's memory". I assume this means that it's possible to send sampler data via the Midi Sample Dump Standard to a computer for editing, storage, etc. and yet there is no other mention of the procedure in either the Guide Book or the Owner's Manual! Is it or is it not possible to do this? Was this some wishful thinking that was left out of the S-330's operating system and inadvertantly left undeleted in the Guide Book? Are there any other S-330 users out there who have succesfully saved their sample data to a computer? Are there any librarian/editors for the S-330 that will work with Windows or Win95? What I CAN tell you Tim is that "yes" it is possible to transfer samples over midi, "no" it is not midi sample dump standard but a system exclusive format particular to Roland. I challenge anyone to make out the format from Roland's manual. My comments on this method would be: 1) Some packages support this method (e.g. older Samplevision). 2) Midi is VERY slow to transfer samples. 3) If you want to convert samples to a PC format (not the other way) then use CONVERT 1.4b and SDISK 1.1 which can read Roland disks in the PC. There are several other users who would like to transfer edited or new samples from PC to sampler. Even the slower midi transfer method is preferable to none. I'm copying this note to all at Sgroup to once again ask if anyone has done this??? I'm copying this note to all at Sgroup to once > again ask if anyone has done this??? heres what i know, if anyone is interested. on the sgroup archive there are a series of files called diks-tools.shared or something to that effect. THey include a header file called rs12.h. This header file is a description of the s-550/s-330/? disk format. I have successfully compiled a program which reads the entire contents of an s-550 disk into memory, including samples what im thinking is that, given that this header file was successful in providing a template for reading from a disk image, it should be possible to take a list of samples, such as .wav files, and stick them into a roland sampler disk image. It might require some conversion from 16/8-bit to 12-bit, but thats not impossible. It might take a little programming, but its one of the only options i can think of, in lieu of purchasing some potentially expensive software, or a macintosh and some potentially expensive software. luckily, im in school for computer science. =I anyhow, joseph devlin - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lotus.uwaterloo.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From owner-sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Wed Dec 4 13:09:58 1996 Received: from lotus.uwaterloo.ca (lotus.uwaterloo.ca [129.97.140.9]) by watdragon.uwaterloo.ca (8.7.6/8.7.3) with SMTP id NAA20914 for ; Wed, 4 Dec 1996 13:09:55 -0500 Received: by lotus.uwaterloo.ca id <207>; Wed, 4 Dec 1996 12:57:53 -0500 Received: from dfw-ix7.ix.netcom.com ([206.214.98.7]) by lotus.uwaterloo.ca with SMTP id <23>; Wed, 4 Dec 1996 12:57:04 -0500 Received: from l.meyer.ix.netcom.com (sfo-ca27-31.ix.netcom.com [207.93.61.159]) by dfw-ix7.ix.netcom.com (8.6.13/8.6.12) with SMTP id JAA26611; Wed, 4 Dec 1996 09:56:45 -0800 Message-ID: <32A5BBD1.F78@ix.netcom.com> Date: Wed, 4 Dec 1996 12:58:41 -0500 From: "|_ |\\/|" Reply-To: l.meyer@ix.netcom.com Organization: |_ |\/| X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.0 (Win95; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: sgroup , CJ Cliff & Kelisa Kehne-Cliff Subject: Re: sgroup SDISK References: <32A520EA.5405@mason.gmu.edu> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Precedence: bulk Status: R CJ Cliff & Kelisa Kehne-Cliff wrote: > I just discovered this library through Roland's website. It might take a little programming, but its one of the only options i can think of, in lieu of purchasing some potentially expensive software, or a macintosh and some potentially expensive software. luckily, im in school for computer science. =I anyhow, joseph devlin - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lotus.uwaterloo.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lotus.uwaterloo.ca - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lotus.uwaterloo.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From owner-sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Fri Dec 6 12:38:19 1996 Received: from lotus.uwaterloo.ca (lotus.uwaterloo.ca [129.97.140.9]) by watdragon.uwaterloo.ca (8.7.6/8.7.3) with SMTP id MAA27970 for ; Fri, 6 Dec 1996 12:38:18 -0500 Received: by lotus.uwaterloo.ca id <212>; Fri, 6 Dec 1996 12:26:30 -0500 Received: from top ([194.224.80.2]) by lotus.uwaterloo.ca with SMTP id <23>; Fri, 6 Dec 1996 12:25:38 -0500 Received: from [194.224.80.237] by top via SMTP (950413.SGI.8.6.12/940406.SGI) for id SAA18212; Fri, 6 Dec 1996 18:22:47 +0100 X-Sender: paa10082@mail.webhouse.es Message-Id: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable http: //www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/6588/ Date: Fri, 6 Dec 1996 12:27:45 -0500 To: sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From: rirusta10082@webhouse.es (Rafa Irusta) Subject: sgroup CD-ROM S3000 Sender: owner-sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Precedence: bulk Status: R Hi: S-760 read S3000 CD-Rom?????? It appears that all parameters are accessible via sysex, including filter resonance. This manual, BTW, is well-written (in English!) and comprehensive, and is in general a much better resource than the S-760 manual (though, naturally, it does not cover S-760-specific parameters). - Dan Phillips - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lotus.uwaterloo.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From owner-sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Fri Dec 6 15:38:09 1996 Received: from lotus.uwaterloo.ca (lotus.uwaterloo.ca [129.97.140.9]) by watdragon.uwaterloo.ca (8.7.6/8.7.3) with SMTP id PAA02373 for ; Fri, 6 Dec 1996 15:38:08 -0500 Received: by lotus.uwaterloo.ca id <213>; Fri, 6 Dec 1996 15:26:28 -0500 Received: from mason2.gmu.edu ([129.174.1.11]) by lotus.uwaterloo.ca with SMTP id <23>; Fri, 6 Dec 1996 15:25:37 -0500 Received: from [129.174.52.239] by mason2.gmu.edu; (5.65v3.2/1.1.8.2/07Sep94-1001AM/GMUv1) id AA04662; Fri, 6 Dec 1996 15:24:57 -0500 Message-Id: <32A88FF5.53FD@mason.gmu.edu> Date: Fri, 6 Dec 1996 16:28:21 -0500 From: CJ Cliff Organization: Patriot Center / Centre Management X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.01 (Macintosh; I; 68K) Mime-Version: 1.0 To: sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Subject: sgroup SDISK Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Precedence: bulk Status: R I want to thank everybody who gave me advice on how to make this work. I have an S50 and am working on a program that should do such things. I began programming when I first used SYS505 to convert some S550/S330 disk to S50 format. Though it worked it was rather unconfortable to use. Currently my program does the following: read/write S-50 disks or disk images, show the patch names and tone names, show tone parameters (length, sampling frequency), play tone and save to AIFF file. Currently missing is a convert routine for S330/S550 disks and loading samples in AIFF format. If anyone is interested, I could mail the sources. Here's one of the few ways I go about sound conversion: Using TX16W samples with the S550 sampler ------------------------------------------------ 1) Open TX16W file with SoundConverter(TM). 2) Save as a System 7 sound. 3) Open SoundHack(TM) and select "import snd resource" from the Open pull down menu. 4) A snd resource window will appear for the System 7 sound. Click "ok". 5) Save as a 16-bit linear AIFF file. 6) Open Alchemy(TM) and select "Open", for the AIFF file. Note: Alchemy 2.23 does not support sample bit resolutions less than 9-bit or greater than 16-bit. 7) Do any sample editing needed and save the file 8) Make sure S550 is set to "Exclusive: On" (enables S550 to receive sample via sysex) 9) Choose S550 under "Network" pull down menu and send sample. peace. It came on the air on January 8, 1995 and is aptly named. It is truely "Do It Yourself" radio. There are only three emplyees - all the rest of the people who run and operate the station are volunteers! I'm one of the many volunteers, having engineered one of the locally produced shows. And now, my long wait is over. The Thursday night 11 pm to 1 am slot needs to be filled and the Program Director asked me if I'd like to have it to do a space music program. Of course, I jumped on the opportunity! If you have Space, Emusic, Ambient, or other suitable music that you'd like to receive airplay exposure, please send your CD or DAT to: Bill Fox 169 E. Beil Ave. Nazareth, Pennsylvania 18064 USA Remember, my show, which will premier on Thursday, January 23, 1997, will predominantly feature space and ambient music. There may be some excursions into Progressive Rock if I get any submissions in that genre. But space music will be my guiding criteria as to what music gets air play. Anything that feels like New Age to me will not be played on this show. To give you an idea of what I want, here is a list of artists whose material I played in the past. The Zip drive itself is very quiet, as it effectively shuts itself down when there have been no disk accesses for a while. However, if you are talking about electrical noise, I can't really say about the Zip drive itself, but I do hear noise from the SCSI bus through my amp. The characteristic sound of a theremin is created by the way you play the sinewave, the familiar vibrato, portamento, tremolo etc. You don't need any special samples.. I downloaded it from the ftp site, unzipped it using Zipit, then used SMAC to put it on a formatted S770 disk. When I put it in the S770 floppy drive and started up the S770, the S770 recognized it as a sytem disk and started to load it into memory (counting down from '26'). When it got to 0 it gave a little burp and started counting down from 26 again. And again... and again... Anybody got any ideas? All input greatly appreciated!
