To: sgroup@hugin.uunet.ca Date: Wed, 18 Jul 2001 07:51:31 -0400 From: nic@cairead.com (Nic Grant) to quote Benjamin Emerson: => Interesting question. My question is whether there's any chance of a newer => version of SDisk (or an equivalent) for the Windows OS... I have no plans currently to make a windows compatible version of sdisk, however, if there was enough demand then I could be persuaded... This brings up a loosely related topic about sdisk and support. Up until now sdisk has been completely freeware with no strings attached and I have tried to support people having problems as best as I could given that it is a freebee. The thing is that I develop software for a living, and that supporting sdisk takes up time I should be spending at work. Thus, I am considering the following scenario: - sdisk is available as freeware, but has optional registration (of say $15) - I will provide email support for registered users - You can also register if you think sdisk is useful and would like to support ongoing development. - If there are enough registrations, then this would allow me to make a windows version (which would also be free with optional registration) So, sdisk remains free (always will in any case), but if you need support or would like a windows version then you can register if you want. If people would like to give me feedback (positive or negative) on that idea, it would be welcomed, and I'll make my decision whether to go down this route based on any responses I get.
