I would like to know if I can put a sample/structure into monophonic mode. For example I want to play a bass line that will only play one note at a time. I looked up and down in the manual and the machine's screens but I could not seem to do this. The best I can do is to split the 16 voices betweent the four ABCD structures for 4-note polyphony. There's nothing worse than playing a fat bass line live and flubbing a couple of notes together. I did see that in MIDI you can select the number of voices per MIDI channel, but it didn't seem to do what I need it to do. Maybe I didn't set the two values correctly? Can anyone offer assistance? A friend of mine actually FOUND a JL Cooper Fadermaster on the sidewalk on trash day and, having no use for it himself, was nice enough to pass it on. (There was also an old Yamaha QX-5, which I'm loving). Anyway, I've been getting to know my S-760 for about 6 months and have been limited to mouse/crt editing so I'm excited to enter the "Controller World". Unfortunately, I'm a real novice at this and I can't figure out how to get the two units (FM & S-760) to dance. I have been able to use the FM to change Patches, so I know the thing works, but what about LFO rates & TVF's etc.? I realise I have a LONG road in front of me, but what's the best place to start learning about controllers messages? I have all the s-760 literature and a manual from a new fadermaster pro, so eventually I should be able to suss this out. Good karma for those who pity newbies!!!! OH; and my sdiskw idea - I use external zip's but sdiskw only recognizes a & b, so I'm setting up a network drive on my c to be called a. Hopefully this'll tie it all together. -declan new bedford, ma __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - now with 250MB free storage. The columns are the four possible controller sources, Pitch Bend, Aftertouch, Modulation Wheel and "Ctrl". "Ctrl" is an arbitrary MIDI controller you can select in the upper half of the screen: "Ctrl Select". The lines of the matrix are the eight possible controller destinations. Note that where a modulation path is possible (not always the case) the senstivity can be set to positive and negative values. There's another very interesting option: you can set a Sample Mix Table (SMT) controller and its sensitivity (upper half of the screen). This way you can do with a controller what usually is done with MIDI velocity: determine the blend of the several samples in a partial. To make this work, you have to set the "SMT Vel Ctrl" parameter of the partial (screen "Partial"/"Common", lowest line) to Off. Unlike with controlling this via velocity, you can alter the blend while the samples are playing. One shot mode plays through the sample once only, but it will decay once the note is released. What you need to do is set the envelope to make the decay and release rates as long as possible, and the sustain level at its maximum. But I don't know if the maximum release rate is effectively infinite or whether the sound still decays anyhow, only fairly slowly.
