Apologies in advance. These are two tracks I recorded at a Boston recording studio in early 1989. Both heavily feature Roland equipment including the S-550 sampler. Drums on both tracks are S-550 samples ('don't remember which ones) processed in the studio, although crash cymbals are real. Keyboards are Roland Jupiter-6 and D-50 (yep, that's the 'OK Chorale' patch at the end of each verse in 'Dream Lover") and *maybe* MT-32 for the hi-hat, though I honestly don't remember. Real guitars on both tracks, real bass throughout "I'm Back" and briefly in the Middle 8 of "Dream Lover." I play all live instruments on both tracks except for lead guitar and bass on "Dream Lover." I'm lead vocal and backing is me and three friends. http://www.elanza.com/media/ImBack.mp3 http://www.elanza.com/media/DreamLover.mp3 Comments? Probably more Mac than Win users here, eh? There's a special version of SMAC that is capable of creating HD (1.4MB) disks from disk images. Use this version when handling HD disk images. Unfortunately (AFAIK) there's no (HD-capable) SMAC version that does it the other way around (creating disk image files from floppies). To handle multiple-disk samples just treat each disk separately. I'm just curious to know what you all are doing with your sampler nowadays. I recently got my Keyboards of the 60s & 70s Vol. II CD (finally). Since I have to deal with that 600MB Limit. I've been making Zips of Performances (with various sound sets that I'd need to use in my recordings to sketch ideas), and then using Disk2File to make Roland CDs on my PC. This has turned out to be very useful as I can get up and going quickly, and have permanent backups of my stuff (I just know there'll be a day when my Zip100 will kick the bucket). I'm also saving up for a Roland XV5080 (prices are falling quickly) so I can take advantage of the 128MB and the larger drive addressing. Those beasts can address up to 2TB! Twice a week or so, I'll have listening sessions where I'll load in various patches off my CDs and try to come up with song ideas. That's more or less what I've been up to with my S760, what about you other S users? I'm at work now maybe I or Harold could answer your questions. When I get home I could tell you more specifics - I could list every instrument on the CDs if you like. You get lots of different versions of each instrument - different memory size, vibrato on and off, leslie on and off, different B-3 drawbar settings, etc. The Roland sample CDs are very good - at this price I honestly don't know why anyone with an S-7XX sampler (or XV-5080) wouldn't buy them. While moving from NYC to LA I lost my Roland library of samples for the S550. Since then I've done the usual - found the archive, downloaded, unzipped, etc. etc., but for some reason I've been unable to replace the disks...the transfers aren't working for me, and Roland has been no help at all! Does anyone in the LA area have the original Roland library for the S550? And, if so, is there a way....well, at least the string disk, the woodwind disk, and the harp disk...that would help me out a lot - and thanks in advance! You know, I have all these sounds in my other synths, but the sampler sounds are still better.... There's lots of very interesting info about Roland samplers there, much of it very helpful for those of us making lots of use of our samplers. Some of it is outdated, yes, but it's still very worthwhile to search there if you're looking for specific how-tos or just interesting ideas concerning your sampler. http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/archive/archives/ Jesse - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lists.uunet.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lists.uunet.ca and see http://www.generalconcepts.com/sgroup/ for more information.
