I'm not sure about hooking up the sampler directly. If your drives are external (I forget if you can even have internal drives on an s760?) you can leave the s760 completely out of the loop. By the way I have the giga edition of translator, which is cheaper, and I'm pretty sure it works for this application as well as the full version. There's also a free version of translator, which I know nothing about, which may work fine too (doesn't hurt to download it and try, I guess). I'd suggest emailing chickensystems though to find out what they recommend. Or try the forum at northersounds.com Note that I haven't actually done this. I HAVE done the same thing on a Mac, using "osmosis," which is a very similar process. -Alison DAJA300@aol.com writes: > Ok I found the site for chickensys. I believe so, since the only real data is at the sample level. >What if i wanted to affect a whole patch or partial, would I have to work on one physical sample at a time? Yes. The 760 doesn't seem to have the smarts to edit more than one thing at a time at the sample level. >Can I do batch processing on the S760? I don't recall this being possible on the 760. To save time you can edit from the Partial level. As you apply changes to a sample, you can then go back to the Partial and dial up the next sample, then select the appropriate function from the Sampling menu. The settings will remain the same and you can apply them to the new sample. But be careful since you are creating a new sample, so you must manage your samples carefully so that the new sample replaces the old. You only get one chance to "undo". More generally, I offer this bit of advice...from memory... When you get into a fresh sampling session, start from the Sample Mix Table. I've tried quite a few things and found that the Sample Mix Table is the best place to start any sampling session, especially if you are working on an existing Partial or Patch. -Pick a blank Patch, NAME IT (ie "Drumkit" or "Piano") -Pick a blank Partial, NAME IT (ie "Snare" or "Piano_C4") -select a blank Sample, NAME IT (ie "Snare_Loud" or "Piano_C4_Loud") -select Quick Sampling from the drop down menu. Your new-named sample should be waiting for you on the Sampling screen (if not, you can select it from the drop-down menu). You need only set the parameters prior to sampling (sample rate, Orig key etc) and perform the sample. When it's all fixed up - you've set your loop point etc, and set the params on the key assign screen - switch back to Sample Mix Table. Your new Patch/Partial/Sample will be waiting (no assigning required). You can dial up your other samples from the drop-down if you like and can rename anything from here as well. You can also set the key follow parameter. If you don't like the sample you can go back to the sampling menu. I like working from the Sample Mix Table because it allows access to the Patch, Partial, and Samples from one screen. Finally, after you have all your samples assigned to Partials within the Patch, switch to the key assign screen (Patch menu) and assign your new Partials to the keyboard. This saves a lot of switching around since most of the work is done at the partial and sample level, which can all be accessed from the Sample Mix Table. Last, when you switch back to performance mode, the Patch will be ready and waiting for assignment to a midi channel. Remember to make sure you name everything as you go along. I hope this is useful info. Happy sampling...
