The least expensive monitor I know of that works and you can find (relatively) easily is the old Atari SC-1224. On the sgroup FTP site is a document explaining the pin-outs of the monitor and the S-50/330/550. All you need to do is make (or have someone make) an adapter to go from one pin out to the other. Otherwise, you could look for an old CGA-type monitor and try to figure it out the conversion yourself. I'm sure there are ways to connect a VGA monitor to the sampler as well, but not having that kind of technical expertiese, I couldn't venture as to how to do it. Although it can't be too hard, since there were VGA adapters/converters made for the Atari ST which allowed a VGA monitor to be connected to the ST monitor port. - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lotus.uwaterloo.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From sdaino@compuserve.com Thu Sep 4 09:07:05 1997 Received: from angel.uunet.ca (localhost.uunet.ca [127.0.0.1]) by pollux.uunet.ca (8.8.6/8.8.6) with ESMTP id JAA03665 for ; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 09:07:04 -0400 (EDT) Received: from troll.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.10]) by angel.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <17206-14081>; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:52:16 -0400 Received: from ghost.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.100]) by troll.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <44612-17624>; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:52:06 -0400 Received: from seraph.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.254]) by ghost.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <4851-7841>; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:51:48 -0400 Received: from cicerone.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.11]) by seraph.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <657094-7234>; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:51:41 -0400 Received: from math.uwaterloo.ca ([129.97.216.42]) by cicerone.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <116141-8920>; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:51:33 -0400 Received: from lotus.uwaterloo.ca (lotus.uwaterloo.ca [129.97.140.9]) by math.uwaterloo.ca (8.8.5/8.8.5) with SMTP id IAA06370 for ; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:51:29 -0400 (EDT) Received: by lotus.uwaterloo.ca id <182>; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:43:58 -0400 Received: from hil-img-9.compuserve.com ([149.174.177.139]) by lotus.uwaterloo.ca with SMTP id <67>; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:43:06 -0400 Received: (from mailgate@localhost) by hil-img-9.compuserve.com (8.8.6/8.8.6/2.5) id IAA00502 for sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:43:02 -0400 (EDT) Date: Thu, 4 Sep 1997 08:42:30 -0400 From: Stefano Daino Subject: sgroup About D-SoundPRO 3.0 and S760 SCSI transfer To: Roland User List Message-ID: <199709040842_MC2-1F20-58E0@compuserve.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Disposition: inline Sender: owner-sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Precedence: bulk X-UIDL: 58115e04ed581d37a93c3eb663ceb3bf Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-MIME-Autoconverted: from quoted-printable to 8bit by pollux.uunet.ca id JAA03665 Status: R Hi everybody, About using D-SoundPRO 3.0 for Mac and the scsi sample dump to/from S-760 and DJ70MkII Roland Samplers: The Roland protocol requires also a bidirectional midi connection to/from your sampler. Before you attempt to transfer a sound to/from D-SoundPRO 3.0 and your sampler by scsi, you must ACTIVATE OMS as midi manager from D-SoundPRO network menu - midi submenu (or from its preference dialog). Actually there's an easier and cheaper way to use a color monitor. My S-330 uses a Tandy color CGA monitor through a custom made adapter (wich consists of only a male 8-pin DIN connector, a female DB-9 connector and a short piece of cable) that goes at the end of the monitor cable. I bought the set (monitor/adapter) for $50 about a year ago from an S-760 user. Color CGA monitors are worth nothing these days, and I don't think there would be a better solution than that. :-) |_ |\/| - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lotus.uwaterloo.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From krest@uib.no Fri Sep 5 10:18:56 1997 Received: from angel.uunet.ca (localhost.uunet.ca [127.0.0.1]) by pollux.uunet.ca (8.8.6/8.8.6) with ESMTP id KAA00245 for ; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 10:18:54 -0400 (EDT) Received: from troll.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.10]) by angel.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <17232-28468>; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 09:20:11 -0400 Received: from ghost.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.100]) by troll.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <44612-3705>; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 09:20:03 -0400 Received: from seraph.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.254]) by ghost.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <4929-5175>; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 09:19:51 -0400 Received: from mail2.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.15]) by seraph.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <657076-26888>; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 09:19:46 -0400 Received: from watdragon.uwaterloo.ca ([129.97.140.24]) by mail2.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <123003-26279>; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 09:19:48 -0400 Received: from lotus.uwaterloo.ca (lotus.uwaterloo.ca [129.97.140.9]) by watdragon.uwaterloo.ca (8.8.5/8.8.5) with SMTP id JAA26888 for ; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 09:19:42 -0400 Received: by lotus.uwaterloo.ca id <185>; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 09:09:05 -0400 Received: from math.uwaterloo.ca ([129.97.140.144]) by lotus.uwaterloo.ca with SMTP id <67>; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 09:06:58 -0400 Received: from angel.uunet.ca (root@angel.uunet.ca [142.77.1.8]) by math.uwaterloo.ca (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id HAA04156 for ; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 07:30:34 -0400 (EDT) Received: from pollux.uunet.ca ([209.47.143.131]) by angel.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <17232-28468>; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 07:27:09 -0400 Received: (from jsellens@localhost) by pollux.uunet.ca (8.8.6/8.8.6) id HAA01222 for sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca; Fri, 5 Sep 1997 07:27:02 -0400 (EDT) Received: from noralf.uib.no ([129.177.30.12]) by lotus.uwaterloo.ca with SMTP id <67>; Thu, 4 Sep 1997 18:53:12 -0400 Received: from linear (actually ti21a33-0010.dialup.online.no) by noralf.uib.no with SMTP (PP); Fri, 5 Sep 1997 00:52:42 +0200 Message-Id: <3.0.32.19970905004611.00693754@alfred.uib.no> X-Sender: stud3169@alfred.uib.no X-Mailer: Windows Eudora Pro Version 3.0 (32) Date: Thu, 4 Sep 1997 18:46:13 -0400 To: sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From: Bjarte Andreassen Subject: sgroup S-750 and Windows95 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Sender: owner-sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca Precedence: bulk X-UIDL: 5918608825fd19504d94846658189e4f Status: R Could anyone help me with the following: 1). Writing the scsi sample dump, I discovered it is caused by a wrong parameter setting into the S760, which is not part of the SDS standard protocol. Here's one way to check (this may or may not be technically sound): * Clear all sampler memory. * Record a sample of your voice for 40 seconds. * Play the sample back. If the crackles start at 22.5 seconds into the sample, you probably have bad expansion RAM. Why? Because the first 22.5 seconds use the base RAM that comes with the '770, and any time after that uses the expansion RAM. I believe S-770 needs 70 or 80 ns RAM. Why use Sysex? Isn't it possible to control pan with MIDI controller on the S-750? The S-760 is able to do this (see MIDI filter page in performance mode). Seems much easier to me than sysex. The reason I'm wondering is because I'd like to use something similar for my Linn 9000 disks in order to copy them and send files over the net. According to it's specs it uses a standard DSDD format (80 tracks, 9 sectors/ track, 512 bytes/ sector, 720K) I'm not sure how different this format is from that that the Roland samplers use, but it is the same as a PC. I know it can be done - someone is doing it, but I'd like to find a way here. Does anyone know their technology enough to help me out or at least to lead me in a proper direction? Thanks for putting up with the off topic question. I second that question! Check to see that you're using a good coax if that, in fact, is what you are using. I have had some probs w/crappy coax cables. Also, if you are using a Y-connector to connect, ie a dat, and some other digi out to the Roland, this may be a source of problems. The problem is most likely a bad signal going into the digi input. -------------------THE QUAD SQUAD-------------------- statik@gate.net producer/arranger/engineer BASS<5hz www.gate.net/~statik ---------------------------------------------------------------- - Sent by the sgroup mailing list on lotus.uwaterloo.ca For subscription information, send mail to majordomo@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From ckirkham@uclink4.berkeley.edu Mon Sep 29 08:43:18 1997 Received: from angel.uunet.ca (jsellens@localhost.uunet.ca [127.0.0.1]) by pollux.uunet.ca (8.8.6/8.8.6) with ESMTP id IAA00344 for ; Mon, 29 Sep 1997 08:43:18 -0400 (EDT) Received: from troll.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.10]) by angel.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <17288-15168>; Mon, 29 Sep 1997 01:41:16 -0400 Received: from cicerone.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.11]) by troll.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <28623-14461>; Mon, 29 Sep 1997 01:40:50 -0400 Received: from ghost.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.100]) by cicerone.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <115697-29820>; Sun, 28 Sep 1997 23:26:35 -0400 Received: from seraph.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.254]) by ghost.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <5057-29564>; Sun, 28 Sep 1997 23:22:40 -0400 Received: from cicerone.uunet.ca ([142.77.1.11]) by seraph.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <658016-9416>; Sun, 28 Sep 1997 23:22:27 -0400 Received: from math.uwaterloo.ca ([129.97.140.144]) by cicerone.uunet.ca with ESMTP id <115448-21820>; Sun, 28 Sep 1997 19:15:24 -0400 Received: from lotus.uwaterloo.ca (lotus.uwaterloo.ca [129.97.140.9]) by math.uwaterloo.ca (8.8.5/8.8.5) with SMTP id TAA05125 for ; Sun, 28 Sep 1997 19:15:19 -0400 (EDT) Received: by lotus.uwaterloo.ca id <181>; Sun, 28 Sep 1997 19:08:07 -0400 Received: from uclink4.berkeley.edu ([128.32.155.12]) by lotus.uwaterloo.ca with SMTP id <135>; Sun, 28 Sep 1997 19:07:17 -0400 Received: from [136.152.26.34] (clkhomeip.HIP.Berkeley.EDU [136.152.26.34]) by uclink4.berkeley.edu (8.8.4/8.6.12) with ESMTP id QAA15321 for ; Sun, 28 Sep 1997 16:07:12 -0700 (PDT) Date: Sun, 28 Sep 1997 19:07:12 -0400 Message-Id: In-Reply-To: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" X-mailer: Eudora Pro 3.0 for Macintosh To: sgroup@lotus.uwaterloo.ca From: Chris Kirkham Subject: Re: sgroup 760 freezes when sampling! One of the best features of this software is the possibility of SCSI transfer between my Mac and S-760. However once I plugged in my SCSI cable between Mac and S-760 I was in for a surprise. D-Sound Pro couldn’t get S-760 to communicate and all I would get as a result was an error message saying that S-760 is not responding and that I should check SCSI connections. My first reaction was that it might be a bad SCSI cable but unfortunately even after replacing it with the new one I would still get the same error message from D-Sound Pro. It is also interesting to notice that once I give command to D-Sound Pro to get a sample sound from S-760, MIDI/SCSI activity light lights up for a second. My computer ID number is set to 7, hard drive ID is set to #0, CD Rom ID number is set to 3 and my sampler ID is #5. My S-760 is plugged into in and out ports number 3 of my Midi Time Piece. I tried everything I could to make this system communicate but I failed. My only hope now is that someone out there has a miracle solution to my problem. For midi I/O, D-SoundPRO requires the original OMS installed on your mac. Unfortunally at moment D-SoundPRO is NOT compatible with Freemidi or its OMS emulator. Having a MTP I midi interface, I think this is your the problem. Please use the last version of D-SoundPRO, the 3.1.1. You find it at: http://www.harmony-central.com/Software/Mac into Compuserve database, (MIDI Forum) into Info-mac database and its mirrors. If you (or someone in this list) need assistance, don't hesitate to write to me. Thanks Stefano Daino the author of D-SoundPRO sdaino@compuserve.com >>> D-Sound Pro couldn t get S-760 to communicate and all I would get as a result was an error message saying that S-760 is not responding and that I should check SCSI connections. ...
